Fumigation in Aromas, CA

101 Exterminators performs full-structure fumigation in Aromas using Vikane (sulfuryl fluoride), the treatment for drywood termite infestations that have spread past what spot work can reach. On rural parcels the job is as much logistics as chemistry — tarp clearance under the oaks, a driveway the equipment can use, and a plan for horses, poultry, and feed. We handle tenting, aeration, and clearance testing. SPCB Lic. #9119.

Tenting a House on an Aromas Horse Property Is a Logistics Job Before It Is a Treatment

Fumigation is not the first answer in Aromas, and on many properties it is not the answer at all. Subterranean termites (Reticulitermes spp.) are the dominant species in this community and they are treated in the soil, not under a tarp. Tenting comes up when western drywood termites (Incisitermes minor) have gotten into the framing of one of the older houses — the early stock left from the Sand Cut years, the places near the Grange hall at Rose and Bardue, or the farmhouses off Carpenteria Road — and the galleries show up in more than a couple of members.

When it does come up, the rural setting changes the work. An Aromas parcel usually has mature oaks close to the roofline, a long unpaved driveway, and outbuildings within a few feet of the house. Tarps need overhead clearance and clean tie-down ground. Equipment has to get in and back out. And a vacate means the horses still need water, the chickens still need to be shut somewhere safe, and someone has to be on the property for the reset — none of which applies to a house on a small lot in town.

Feed, hay, and animal medications carry the same bagging requirements as human food. That catches people out on equestrian parcels, because a tack room attached to the house sits inside the seal.

How We Work in Aromas

We walk the property before anything gets scheduled: overhead clearance under the oaks, where the tarp can be weighted, whether the driveway will take the truck, and which outbuildings are attached to the house and therefore inside the seal. Then we build your prep list — what gets bagged, including feed and animal medications in an attached tack room, and what leaves the property entirely. Gas concentration is monitored throughout, the structure is aerated on protocol, and a certified clearance company tests before anyone re-enters.

Aromas Climate

Aromas has a moderate coastal-influenced climate, somewhat warmer than direct Monterey Bay coastal communities but cooler and moister than inland Hollister. Proximity to Elkhorn Slough maintains local humidity above typical inland San Benito County levels. This moisture influence means subterranean termites are more active here than in drier inland communities, and moisture-dependent pests like silverfish and carpenter ants are present year-round.

Housing Stock

Aromas is a small rural community with a mix of older rural residential properties, horse properties, and hobby farms. Housing stock is varied — from older 20th-century farmhouses to newer rural estate development. Outbuildings, barns, and equipment storage are common pest harborage points throughout the community.

Why Local Expertise Matters

Aromas' position at the county boundary and its unique wetland adjacency creates pest dynamics we understand from service across both Monterey and San Benito counties. The Elkhorn Slough influence on rodent pressure is something we address routinely for clients in this community.

Signs You Need Fumigation Service in Aromas

We manage the entire fumigation process: pre-fumigation inspection and documentation, structure tenting with certified fumigation tarps, introduction of Vikane fumigant to specified concentration, aeration protocol, post-fumigation clearance testing, and coordination with a certified fumigation clearance company before you return. We also provide bagging requirements and preparation guidance for food, medications, and plants.

Our Fumigation Process in Aromas

Every job follows the same methodical approach — no shortcuts, no guesswork. Here is what to expect when you work with us in Aromas.

01

Pre-Fumigation Inspection

We document all entry points, confirm the infestation scope, measure the structure for gas calculation, and review the preparation checklist with you at least 3 days before the fumigation date.

02

Structure Tenting

Our crew tents the entire structure with specialized fumigation tarps, sealed at the foundation to prevent gas escape. Neighbors are notified as required, and warning signs are posted.

03

Gas Introduction & Monitoring

Vikane is introduced to calculated concentration and held for the required exposure time. Readings are monitored throughout the process to confirm effective dosage.

04

Aeration & Clearance

The structure is thoroughly aerated until Vikane levels are below the safe entry threshold. A certified third-party inspector confirms clearance levels before we authorize re-entry.

Fumigation You Can Count On in Aromas

Complete Structure Coverage

Gas fumigant penetrates every void, cavity, and piece of wood in the structure — including areas impossible to reach with liquid or foam treatments.

Vikane — Industry Gold Standard

Vikane (sulfuryl fluoride) is the most widely used and thoroughly studied structural fumigant. It leaves no residual after aeration — the structure is safe to re-enter after clearance.

Third-Party Clearance Testing

Re-entry is only authorized after independent clearance testing confirms gas levels are below threshold. No guesswork on when your home is safe.

Real Estate Compliant

Fumigation clears all Section 1 termite conditions for real estate transactions. We issue the required Completion Notice accepted by lenders and escrow companies.

Fumigation FAQs for Aromas

Can you tent a house in Aromas with big oaks hanging over the roof?

Usually yes, but the trees decide the schedule and sometimes the method. Tarps need clearance to pass over and around the structure, and the mature oaks and overhead power drops on Aromas parcels often mean limbs must be tied back or trimmed first. We assess overhead clearance and tie-down ground during the pre-fumigation inspection and will tell you then if local treatment is the more sensible route.

What do I do with my horses and chickens while the house is tented?

Animals have to be off the structure and clear of the tented area for the whole fumigation and aeration period, and any feed, hay, or animal medication stored inside the seal must be bagged or removed exactly like human food. Most Aromas owners turn horses out on the far side of the parcel or board them for the duration, and poultry gets moved well away rather than shut in a coop against the house. We go through every item of this on the pre-fumigation walkthrough.

My termites are subterranean — do I still need fumigation?

No. Fumigation does not control subterranean termites, because Reticulitermes colonies live in the soil and keep foraging back into the structure once the gas has cleared. They are treated with soil applications and bait systems instead. Since subterranean termites are the species we find most often in Aromas, tenting is the exception here, not the rule — we recommend it when drywood galleries appear in multiple framing members or in places nothing else can reach.
