Aptos is small, but it is not uniform. Seacliff, Rio Del Mar and Seascape sit under the summer marine layer that forms overnight off Monterey Bay and usually clears by midday, and even in August and September the average high on the coast is only about 73°F. That produces two moves indoors each year: one when the ground dries out in late summer and the ants follow plumbing and irrigation to water, and one when the first real storms saturate the soil and everything living in it comes up.
